Shelf life of cosmetics depends on period after opening and production date, not expiration date.
Period after opening (PAO). Some cosmetics should be used within a specified period of time after opening due to oxidation and microbiological factors. Their packaging has a drawing of an open jar, inside it there is a number expressed in months (attached).
Production date. Unused cosmetics also lose freshness and become dryer. As far as the European Union law is concerned, if the shelf life of the cosmetic product is more than 3 years manufacturer is not required to include information about the expiration date.
